Do your children love to camp? Mine do but I don?t so we improvised and do Campfire Cookouts. It is a lot of fun and we invite their friends over to join in. We live in a wooded area so it is perfect for us but it could easily be done in the city. First and foremost remember fire safety and make sure it is safe and legal to start a fire in your backyard. We use a fire pit to keep things as safe as possible.

For the food we? cook hotdogs on skewers over the open fire or even kebabs sometimes. If you don?t want your children doing this you can cook the food on a grill or inside and bring it out later. Dessert of course is smores which they kids love making and eating. It is the standard campfire food. We don?t do anything fancy food wise, just keep it simple. We do make sure the kids observe proper ?camping? rules such as you don?t throw down paper and you make sure you leave the area as you found it.
The kids sing songs, tell spooky campfire stories, and generally have a good time. There has been the occasionally spend the night in the tent but it is always on the back porch which is enclosed. i draw the line at sleeping with the bugs!
