Emmerdale star Gaynor Faye ? who plays Megan Macey on the rural soap ? has said she is ?thrilled? to have been awarded an honorary degree from a university in her hometown of Leeds.
Faye was presented with an honorary Doctorate of Arts at the graduation ceremony at Leeds Metropolitan University this week for her work ? which also included four years as Judy Mallett on Coronation Street.
Digital Spy quoted the soap star as saying: "I'm so thrilled to be given this honorary degree from Leeds Metropolitan University.
?Leeds is where my heart is, I'm a patriotic Leeds girl and I never thought the day would come that I'd actually get a cap and gown.
"My mum and dad have got cap and gowns, my sister has - but I don't, so this is going to fill a massive void on my mum and dad's wall!?
The actress ? who won the first Dancing On Ice back in 2006 ? also had a few words of wisdom for those picking up their degrees on the same day.
?The advice I would give to graduates is to always follow your dream, work hard and be persistent,? Gaynor added.
"Persistence always pays off together with hard work. Don't expect it to land in your lap, you have to chase it."
