How do I get started with a daycare business? sevaa.org

My goal is opening my own daycare, its been a dream of mine for a long time. I love kids and love working with them. My question is, what do i need to do get it started, do i need to go to college or can i open a small daycare with out going to college? Anyone have any comments or tips they can give me, it would be so helpful thank you.

If you want to start a small family child care in your home in Nebraska you have to find out about the laws and licensing requirements.

Go to the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services at http://www.dhhs.ne.gov/crl/childcare/childcareindex.htm That will help you get the general information that you will need to get started. I highly recommend you meet with someone at the SBA as well to help with things like writing a business plan.

Some other basic things that you will need:

?To become licensed you will have to have an inspection.
?You will also be required to have a background check along with any substitutes, assistants, and family members over 12 that live in the house.
?Nebraska does not require providers to have completed a high school education or GED, but they do require at least 12 hours of annual training (including CPR and first aid).

Other sites to check out as well:

?Childcare.gov has information related to starting and operating a child care business ? http://childcare.gov/
?Grants.gov has information about federal grant programs involving all 26 federal grant-making agencies ? http://www.grants.gov/

I think the more education you get the better because it will ultimately make you a better provider, so if you can make it work, you should try to see if your local community college offers classes in Early Childhood Education.
